Product & Strategy Director

About Door

Door is a business evolution partner. We combine the rigour and vision of a strategic consultancy, the craft and empathy of a design agency and the momentum and transformation of an innovation partner. Our hybrid intelligence and implementation firepower provide the focus, traction and velocity to solve our clients’ most important challenges, refine and grow their existing businesses, and discover and realise the products and services of tomorrow. We work globally, across multiple sectors.

We are looking for a highly intelligent, highly articulate, creative leader to take ownership of large innovation and business transformation projects, working directly with clients at Board level, and leading teams of strategists, designers, technologists, scientists, artists and philosophers.

About you:

  • You are a consultant-grade, recognised industry leader with 10 years’ experience working for top-tier consultancies or brands; a leader of people, projects, thoughts and ideas.
  • You are T-shaped (or π-shaped), with deep expertise in management consulting, strategy, product development, innovation, design or technology, and strong commercial acumen.
  • You get a buzz from – and will have a track record of – delivering impact and innovation to markets and organisations. This could include inventing and shipping new business units, creating new propositions or services, or solving and delivering the solution to a tier one strategic problem.
  • Some of the words people use to describe you are: intelligent, articulate, entrepreneurial, collaborative, determined, curious, bold, empathic and honest.
  • You are creative and generative thinker, capable of inspiring talented hybrid teams and clients who are solving complex problems and shaping the future.
  • You are hands-on when you need to be; capable of doing the work, not simply directing it.
  • You have strong observational skills and excellent judgment, and a track record of success inspiring everyone to do their best work.
  • Everything is interesting to you. You have a point of view on cultural, social and technological trends and what they mean for the future.
  • You have experience in a range of different sectors, and you have a reputation for seeing projects through to a successful conclusion.
  • You are an intuitive team player with a strong personality.
  • You are passionate about clients and their business challenges.
  • You conceptualize and think strategically; and you communicate coherently.
  • You are numerate, imaginative, and credible when it comes to presenting ideas and solutions.
  • You have experience working with business leaders at the highest level and are seen as a trusted advisor and someone who gets things done.
  • You are an expert in contemporary product development processes, e.g., lean or agile.
  • You are familiar with (or perhaps even an expert in) design-led methodologies and problem-solving techniques.
  • You are considered to be an industry thought leader – with an industry reputation, invited to speak at events and conferences etc.
  • An MBA and/or experience of business operations (e.g., call centres) will be an advantage.

About the work:

  • We help ambitious organisations do two things at once: make their core businesses more resilient and competitive today, while inventing new services and revenue streams for tomorrow. This is how organisations evolve – redefining their business and disrupting their service model while the going is good – before the market forces them to do it. In the role of Principal Innovation Consultant, you will take overall ownership of programmes of business evolution for our top clients.
  • You will work directly with our clients’ senior leadership team – often at Board level.
  • You will lead and manage hybrid teams of service designers, proposition designers, engineers, developers, analysts, anthropologists, researchers and other consultants.
  • You will be see engagements through to delivery, e.g., the launch of a new product or service, or the implementation of organisational change.
  • You will have overall responsibility for the strategic growth of a client relationship, and for the quality of the work and the team’s performance.
  • You will resolve (and own) client issues related to the engagements you own, asking for support from the leadership team whenever you need it.
  • You will identify opportunities for business innovation / transformation / evolution, and impress clients regularly with your strategic thinking.
  • You will help set new standards for excellence in our team, and in the work we do for our clients, which may include developing new ways of working.
  • You will ensure that high-quality thinking is part of everything we do.
  • You will mentor less experienced team members.
